United Methodist Youth Fellowship
The UMYF is a vital part of our youth ministry. Youth
in grades 6-12 are actively involved, meeting under the leadership
of the Youth Council and adult advisors.
REGULAR PROGRAM. Meetings are Sunday evenings, 6:00-7:30 p.m. The
youth come together for devotions, refreshments and games. We also
attend district rallies and retreats and send representatives to
Lakeside for Youth Annual Conference in June.
SERVICE PROJECTS. Each month the youth choose a service project.
These activities include the CROP WALK, Christmas Caroling, the
Harvest Party for younger children, and helping with Vacation Bible
School.
FELLOWSHIP. Monthly, the Youth Council plans a special fellowship
activity and everyone is encouraged to invite friends. These events
include canoe trips, bowling, skating, lock-ins, weekend retreats,
camping and pool parties, Christian concerts and Cedar Point Rally
Day.
WORSHIP. The youth conduct the Easter Sunrise Service. They present
a Live Nativity on the Sunbury Square and a Christmas Eve Nativity
at the church. Often, our youth provide special music and serve
as ushers, greeters and liturgists during the Sunday services.
WORK MISSION PROJECT. Each summer, our youth are involved in a
work mission project. Money earned from our fund raisers is used
for a week-long trip to a community that needs help in repairing/painting/roofing
churches or homes of impoverished individuals. Past projects have
helped folks in North Carolina, South Carolina, St. Thomas Island,
Kentucky, Native Americans in Michigan and senior citizens in southern
Ohio. Work missions have been a significant and meaningful part
in the lives of those involved.
